Topics discussed will include how to spot greenwash in press releases/marketing materials, how to unpick questionable environmental claims and how to avoid adding to greenwash in your own writing/content creation.
The panellists are Karen Edwards, Holly Tuppen, Georgina Wilson-Powell and it will be chaired by the BGTW Sustainability Lead, Diana Jarvis.
Karen Edwards
Karen Edwards is a freelance editor and writer specialising in responsible tourism. A journalist for nearly 20 years and a travel writer for over 10, she contributes to a variety of titles including High Life and Time Out, and is the Sustainability Editor at Wanderlust.
Karen is also the author of The Responsible Traveller, a pocket guide to reducing social and environmental impact while travelling.
Georgina Wilson-Powell
Georgina is on a mission to make sustainable choices the norm for humans at every level.
She founded pebble, the UK’s leading sustainable living magazine, launched her own eco festival and created a purpose lead online community between 2016-2022 and now is focusing on consultancy, speaking and her own books.
Her new book 365 Ways To Save The Planet is out in March 2023 in the US and UK. Her first book, Is It Really Green? Eco Dilemmas Answered topped the Amazon bestseller charts.
Holly Tuppen
Holly’s passion for travelling the world responsibly started in 2008 when she set off on an around-the-world-without-flying adventure. After sailing, cycling, walking and hitchhiking oceans, deserts and mountain ranges, Holly returned to spread the word about sustainable travel working for Green Traveller and the Sustainable Hospitality Alliance.
She writes for The Guardian, Adventure.com, The Times, and others. Her debut book, Sustainable Travel: The essential guide to positive impact adventures, was published by Quarto in June 2021.
Diana Jarvis
Diana Jarvis is the BGTW Sustainability Lead. She has a MSc in Environment and Sustainability and has worked in travel publishing for nearly 20 years, variously as a photographer, writer and designer of books.

The event is free to all BGTW members. See the members’ newsletter, Facebook group or contact the Guild secretariat to sign up.
Non-members are welcome to attend for £6 (including booking fee and recording). We welcome questions in advance so we can ensure the session covers everything you want to know. You can also use the Q&A option during the event, and the Chat box will be open.
Can’t make it on the day? If you register for the session, you’ll receive a recording/link to the event within a week, as will all attendees.
What’s the ‘additional donation‘ for? Any donations help the Guild do a number of things: Provide content like this free of charge for those who can’t afford a ticket; help keep costs down at just £6 a ticket; help us put on future useful events for members and non-members.

- Sign up using the dropdown menu at the top of this page and buy your ticket.
- You’ll then receive a Zoom registration link. You need to complete this in order to be sent a Zoom link to join on the day. We advise you register as soon as you buy your ticket to avoid missing the event, or the start of the event. (You can sign up and download Zoom here).
- At the time of the webinar, click on the Zoom link in the email and you’ll be taken to the Zoom website. You can also join via Zoom’s desktop or mobile app.
- Once the panel is ready to begin, you’ll be admitted to the room. You’ll be able to see and hear the panellists and moderator, type messages in the Zoom chat, and send questions in the Q&A box. You won’t be visible or audible to other participants, but your name will show if you join in the chat.
